In memory of Carlton Grant Jr.

Carlton Grant Jr., son of Spragga Benz, was shot by police in Kingston Jamacia on August 24th, 2008. In what is being described as a suspicious shooting, Carlton was shot after police allegedly stopped him and a friend while riding their bicycles. Although the police allege that shots were fired at them, eye-witness reports refute the police officer’s version of the shooting. In addition, video surveillance indicates that Carlton was at a gas station only a few minutes before the shooting and there was no visible sign of a weapon on the young man.

Only 17 years old, Carlton was a hardworking student who had plans of pursuing an acting career after making an appearance alongside his father in the movie Shottas. Friends and family describe him as a quiet child with a bright future ahead.

Police brutality and violence are subjects that are not new to Spragga Benz. The dancehall star has often written songs that reflect the harsh realities of life and the need for peace in the streets.

We send our sincere condolences. May you sleep with angels…

Jazmine Sullivan tops the charts

Phili songstress Jazmine Sullivan topped the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Charts this week with her new single “Need U Bad”. The song, which has been tearing up radio this summer, is off her upcoming debut album Fearless. Her next single, “Bust Your Windows”, is produced by Salaam Remi.
